Hello,
My name is Mike O’Gara; I would like to talk to you about running for office for The Sun Valley Area Neighborhood Council. (SVANC)

The SVANC is a City branch of local, neighborhood government. We are strictly advisory, we do not have the ability to pass any rules or mandate any action. We are advisory to the City Council and other City entities such as Zoning and Planning. We are supposed to be consulted by Water and Power before they take action on things such as rate hikes.  The City funds us each year; we receive $45,000 to be spent in our neighborhoods for improvements.

Members of SVANC are elected from three Categories;  Business people in the Community, Residents of the community and At-Large Stakeholders  who may be members of community organizations or Faith Based organizations, or people who declare a stake in our neighborhood and affirm the factual basis for it. Our Elections will be held on Saturday, MARCH 27TH 2010 at Poly High School at Roscoe Blvd and Arleta Ave.  The term of office is four years. There is no remuneration. This is strictly a volunteer position.

We meet once a month (every second Tuesday of the month)at Villa Scalabrini Retirement Center, 10631 Vinedale Street, in Sun Valley and our next meeting will be on February 9th, 2010 and March 8th, 2010 at 6:30PM. Our meetings last about two hours. In addition to the meetings there are Committees that look into Outreach, Community affairs and planning and zoning issues. These committees meet once a month for about an hour and some members also attend meetings of the City Council, the School Board and various Committee meetings of the LA City Council. This is a wonderful learning experience. You truly will learn how our City Government works and how YOU can participate and really work to improve Sun Valley.

I am asking you to contact me for more information on this worthwhile effort. Please call me at 818-767-6766 or E-mail me at MikeogaraSVANC@aol.com
You can make a difference. You can help improve the quality of life for your neighbors.

Sincerely,

Mike O’Gara
